Peter Cushing by Stagsleap Peter Cushing by Stagsleap
Peter Cushing, the Gentleman of Horror.

I "discovered" Cushing last year, and have been joyfully watching those charming Hammer films ever since. He's a fascinating and talented actor, with a strong reputation for being very gentlemanly.
This drawing is from "The Curse of Frankenstein," Cushing's first Hammer film and arguably his best. The acting is superb and the sets and costumes are lush. There isn't much gore at all (a good thing, in my opinion), but Curse manages to thrill and scare with single shot scenes in which the actors, not necessarily effects, build tension and repulsion. It's often what's just off screen that really gives you the heebie-jeebies. There's also a REALLY hot scene where Cushing makes out with a maid.

White, black and gold ink,
colored pencil,
Japanese gray ink pen,
on toned tan paper.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The shading and details really works with the base color. Magnificent! This really does justice to Mr. Cushing!
I am in love with the Hammer version of Frankenstein. I loved how the films concentrated on Frankenstein being a monster instead of his monstrous creation/s. Cushing did a phenomenal job portraying Victor Frankenstein and so far The Curse of Frankenstein is my favourite from the Hammer films but also my fav Frankenstein movie C: (or to be honest, I can't decide if I like The Horror of Dracula more... hmm). I haven't seen that many Hammer films, but the one's I've watched have been decent at their worst and no matter what kind of a character Cushing plays, he's always top notch!
I also think that you captured the charm and beauty Cushing has, in this drawing. As I said - it really does justice to him! Keep up the good job! C:

Squeee, thank you!
I'm currently working through as many Cushing films as I can find (there is a decent selection on YouTube, actually), and they are all very charming. I have only seen the first two Frankensteins thus far, and they certainly come out on top. Just finished "1984", which I highly recommend, and working on "Horror Express" (I think this clip sums it up well).

Thank you for the kind comments - I think Cushing has a very unique beauty, which I was trying to evoke. :)

Cushing Fan, here. Really like the work here as well on TF.N. Yet, I'd argue with you on what Sir's best Hammer part was. :P

While I've never really liked Hammer movies I do feel some kind of fondness towards Cushing, hm....
Anyways like your pic - especially the strong contrast between soft white "smoky" areas and strong
black, sharp line, gives the whole thing that 3D feel I truly enjoy seeing :) Cheers!
